Rain, snow expected in hills, mountains

KATHMANDU, Feb 28: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has stated that a westerly low-pressure system is currently affecting the country’s weather. Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces are experiencing partly to mostly cloudy conditions, while clouds have covered the rest of the country. Many areas in Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces are witnessing light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the DHM, Sudurpashchim, Karnali, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day, while the rest of the country will have partly to generally cloudy skies. Thunderstorms and lightning will likely bring light to moderate rainfall to many hilly areas of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces. Some lowland areas in Lumbini, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces may also receive light rain with thunderstorms. High-altitude and mountainous regions in Gandaki, Sudurpaschim, and Karnali provinces will likely see light to moderate snowfall.

Clouds will cover most hilly areas of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and other parts of the country tonight, while the rest of the country will remain partly cloudy. Thunderstorms and lightning will bring light to moderate rain to some areas in Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Gandaki provinces. Other hilly regions across the country may also receive light rain with thunderstorms.

The DHM reported in its morning weather bulletin that some high-altitude and Himalayan areas in Gandaki, Sudurpaschim, and Karnali provinces may see light to moderate snowfall.

Over the next 24 hours, thunderstorms and lightning will likely cause light to moderate rain in many hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Some parts of the Terai region in Lumbini, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces, along with hilly areas in other provinces, may also experience light rain with thunderstorms.

The DHM has alerted that many high-altitude and Himalayan areas of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces, some parts of Gandaki province, and a few regions in other provinces will likely experience light to moderate snowfall. It has urged authorities and the public to remain cautious, as the snowfall may disrupt daily life, affect health and agriculture, and impact road transportation and aviation.
