Pugilist picked up for South Asian Games

KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Nepal Boxing Association on Tuesday selected 10 boxers for the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) through open selection tournament that concluded on Tuesday at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu. The players selected for the SAG are the winners of different 10 weight categories.

Minu Gurung of Tribhuvan Army Club (A) became champion in women's 48-51 kg title beating Diwana Sherma of Nepal Police Club (B) in final, Saraswati Rana Magar of APF (A) won women's 56-60 kg event defeating Niru Gurung of Army (A) and Sangita Sunar of APF (B) came first in women's 69-75 kg beating her own club rival Pramila Pandey to book the ticket for SAG.

Similarly, Tej Bahadur Deuwa of Army (A) beat Ganesh Bohara of Bajura in men's 49 kg final, Prem Chaudhary of Army (A) defeated Shakti Lama of Naxal (A) in men's 52 kg event, and Dinesh Shrestha of Police (A) claimed the title of men's 56 kg winning the final against Arjun Sigu of Army (A).

Likewise, Dan Bahadur Darlami beat Bhupendra Thapa of Police (A) in men's 60 kg final, Deepak Shrestha of Army (A) claimed 64 kg final after thrashing Nivash Tandukar of Naxal (A), Bikash Lama of APF (A) won 69 kg event beating Umesh Rijal of Lalitpur (A) and Dipesh Lama of Army (A) defeated Mahendra KC of Army (B) in men's 75 kg final.

Dinesh sets national record in weightlifting

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Dinesh Shrestha of Tribhuvan Army Club set new national record in men's 94 kg snatch lifting 116kg weight during the weightlifting selection tournament for the 12th South Asian Games that kicked off on Tuesday at Satdobato, Lalitpur. Dinesh bettered his own previous record of 115 kg set during the Asian Championship held in Thailand in December. Dinesh also got selected for the SAG along with the record.

Meanwhile, Army's Surendra Shrestha (U-77 kg), Bhairab Singh Thapa (85 kg), Gagan Singh Oli (105 kg) and Pukar Gurung (105 kg and above) along with Prakash KC (56 kg) of Banke, Bikram Thapa (62 kg) of Nepal Police Club, Anil Malla (69 kg) of Police also got selected for the SAG. The selection event for women will be held on Wednesday.

Handball selects players for SAG

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Handball Association selected 14 players for the 12th South Asian Games through selection event on Tuesday. Ankita Chaudhary, Bandana Rai, Pema Sherpa, Prabha Thapa, Sadhana Bam and Uma Rai of APF, Bishnu Bogati, Devi Kumari Baskota, Ram Kumari Chaudhary and Shanti Kala Chaudhary of Tribhuvan Army Club, Jina Rai, Kabita Rai, Nisha Rai and Ranjana Rai of Udayapur got selected for the SAG, according to the association.
