KATHMANDU, Nov 22: A pro-monarchy Rastriya Ekata Party (REP) was launched in the capital Monday.
Speaking at the launch, party chairman Sarad Chandra Dahal said REP has been formed with an objective to foster "national unity". He also said the party´s perception is that the country requires the king as a "guardian".
The party´s manifesto read, "The guardian institution, which was a center of ultimate faith and hope for Nepalis, has been ousted from power without proper thinking."
Other leaders of the party criticized the political parties for declaring Nepal a secular state without holding a referendum. They said their party aims to restore Nepal as a Hindu state.
They accused the leaders of three major political parties for being hell-bent on making the country a "failed" state and handing the erstwhile palace´s rights over to the foreign embassies.
