Police rescue kidnapped man

LAHAN, Nov 9: Police have on Tuesday rescued a man 10 days after he was abducted from Lahan.



Ram Brikshya Mandal, 25, of Arnama-1, Brahmapuri was rescued from a building in the Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Estate in Saptari district Tuesday afternoon. [break]Lahan´s Police Inspector Lal Dhwaj Subedi said a joint team of Rupani Police and Lahan Police rescued Ram Brikshya after exchange of fire with the abductors.



Subedi said police fired seven rounds in retaliation after the kidnappers opened fire on the police rescue team. “There was no casualty in the exchange,” Subedi said.



Police have arrested Kusendra Yadav of Jegani Madhepura-3, Saptari from the incident site while five others managed to escape.



The abductors had demanded Rs 1.2 million in ransom from the family a day after Ram Brikshya was abducted. The family had agreed to pay the amount in Deuri Bharuwa, Saptari on Saturday after failing to bring down the ransom amount following three days of bargaining over the phone.



Police, who had accompanied the family, had arrested one Ashok Yadav of Deuri Bharuwa-3 from the spot and raided the industrial estate. Police said Ganga Ram Yadav of Saptari had the man power company agent Ram Brikshya abducted from Lahan a day after he had taken the latter to Rajbiraj.



Meanwhile the status of 12-year-old Nanda Kishor Chaudhary, who was abducted by an armed group from his home in Rajbiraj a week ago, is yet to be known. The family of the sixth grader at Devki Bal Vidya Mandir, Rajbiraj has not been able to pay the ransom of Rs 500,000 demanded by the abductors.



Inspector at the District Police Office, Saptari Bhuwaneshwor Sah said search for the kidnapped kid is on.


Farmer who went jogging goes missing



MAHOTTARI: A farmer who left home for jogging on Monday morning has gone missing, prompting family members to believe he has been abducted and sending a chill down their spine.



Birendra Yadav, 35, of Aurahi 5, always went jogging with friends and returned home.



On Monday, as usual, he went jogging but never reuturned home. As he did not arrive home even at the fall of dusk, his family members started looking for him. His elder brother Mahendra said the police were informed when he did not turn up until late Monday.



Birendra remained untraced until Tuesday evening, according to him. Police, however, said there isn´t sufficient evidence to confirm that Birendra has been abducted.
