According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC), plantation has been recorded in 1.20 million hectares of the total 1.49 million hectares of paddy fields across the country. Last year, plantation was recorded in less than 60 percent of the total paddy fields.[break]
However, some key paddy producing districts in mid-western Tarai have recorded low plantation. Dang, Banke and Bardia have reported plantation in 61 percent, 44 percent and 76 percent respectively until Wednesday. Plantation has been completed in 61 percent of the total 117,550 hectares of paddy fields in these districts.
“Early monsoon compared to last year resulted in encouraging paddy plantation this year, especially in Tarai districts that had reported low plantation last year,” said Dr Hari Dahal, spokesperson of the MoAC.
According to the ministry, plantation has already been completed in Bajura, Bajhang, Darchula, Achham, Doti, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Dolpa, Mugu, Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Rukum, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Kavre, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. Hilly (28,541 hectares) and mountain (14,305 hectares) areas in the far-western region have reported cent percent plantation.
Similarly, mountain, hilly and Tarai areas in eastern Nepal have reported plantation in 76 percent, 81 percent and 83 percent of the paddy fields. Mountain, hill and Tarai areas in central region have completed plantation in 85 percent, 90 percent and 80 percent completion of paddy fields respectively.
Likewise, western hill, western Tarai and far-western Tarai areas have recorded plantation in 81 percent, 73 percent and 87 percent of the total paddy fields respectively.
