'Parties to blame for promoting corruption'

GORKHA, June 4: Speakers at an anti-corruption campaign organized by Transparency International Nepal and Gorkha Chambers of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) said corruption has been flourishing in the country because of political protection.



Vice President of GCCI Ananda Raj Mulmi said the tendency of committing corruption by cadres of political parties in local consumer committees and covering up their acts by their political leaders at the centre has been promoting corruption. [break]



Saying that leaders have no freedom to engage in deforestation and malpractices, he said corruption is flourishing as the culprits as not being prosecuted. Since it takes long time to settle lawsuits, cases of corruption are being overshadowed, he said.



At the function, Local Development Officer Tilak Paudel insisted that anybody who takes hush money shouldn’t be spared.



Gorkha CDO Mohan Prasad Wagle said those who are into anti-corruption campaign have also fallen in the trap of corruption.



UCPN (Maoist) Tambuwan State Committee member Bhabati Tiwari said the state fund is being misused as the corrupts are not being punished.



Rajan Raj Panta of Neplai Congress stressed that the infringement of the right to speak, walk and participate in democracy is corruption. Ram Saren Basnet of CPN-UML said corrupt ones should be brought to justice at any cost.
