Parties agree to promulgate statute by mid-April

KATHMANDU, July 6: Three major political parties have agreed to prepare the draft of the new constitution within mid-November and promulgate the new constitution by mid-April 2011.



The three parties reached an agreement to this effect during a meeting of the leaders and chief whips of the three major parties – NC, UML and UCPN (Maoist) – at CA building today. [break] The meeting was called on the initiative of Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang on Tuesday at the CA building, New Baneshor.



The meeting also agreed to form the State Restructuring Commission in the month of Shrawan [mid-July to mid-August] and give it two months to accomplish its tasks, according to chief whip of the CPN-UML Bhim Acharya.



The parties have agreed to meet again on Sunday to prepare the detailed work plan of the CA [calendar] on constitution writing.
