KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Opposition parties obstructed the parliament meeting for the sixth time in a row on Sunday demanding that the government revoke a cabinet decision that seeks to legalize land transactions done under the arbitration of the erstwhile “people´s government” of the Maoists during the insurgency period.

Speaker Subas Nembang adjourned the House meeting without entering into the scheduled businesses as lawmakers from the main opposition Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and other small parties in the opposition bench remained standing in front of their seats. [break]

Speaking in parliament, Ratna Sherchan of the NC and Ram Chandra Jha of the UML insisted that they wouldn´t allow the House to resume its business until the government revoked the decision and the prime minister apologized before the parliament for taking such an ´unconstitutional decision´.

Jha also criticized the prime minister for reportedly telling a group of journalists that Nepal might get merged into one of the two neighboring countries-- India or China--if Nepal fails to play a role of a dynamic bridge between the two giants that are making huge progress in economic sectors.
