DHANGADHI, July 30: Over 600 people have been displaced as Ramshikhar Jhala, Masuriya, Pahalwanpur, Chaumala and several other areas in Kailali district were flooded due to incessant rainfall. The displaced are taking refuge at local schools and other safe places. They have also made other arrangements for shelter by erecting makeshift tents.

The flood swept away six houses and two wooden bridges, said SP Yogeshwar Romkhami of Kailali District Police Office. [break]

Sitaram Joshi, vice chairman of Nepal Red Cross Society Kailali chapter, said they distributed foods, clothes and utensils at some places but have failed to reach other places, including Ramshikhar Jhala.

“The flood swept everything. We neither have shelter nor anything to eat,” said Pancharam Chaudhary, a flood victim.

According to SP Romkhami, over 350 houses were flooded in Pahalwanpur VDC alone.

Many of the locals were rescued only after the water level subsided in the evening.

Over 300 families were displaced due to floods at various places in the same district last week.
