BAGLUNG Jan 28: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel on Monday scoffed at the ruling UCPN (Maoist)’s idea of hitting the streets when the party is leading the government.

“It is a democratic practice for the opposition to protest. But the ruling UCPN (Maoist) looks bent on suppressing the opposition’s protest using vigilantes,” Paudel said during a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union, Baglung. [break]

He stressed on a peaceful protest and condemned the attack by his party-affiliated Nepal Students Union activists on the prime minister’s motorcade in Dhangadi a day earlier.

Paudel charged the current government with trying to impose a despotic rule and added that the opposition’s protest is not for power but to bring the Maoists to terms for going to new elections.
