Khageswor Bohara, general secretary of Petrol Tanker Operators´ Association, asked the NOC - state-owned fuel monopolist -- not to add new tankers for the coming five years.
“Given the number of tankers and flow of petroleum products, we don´t need new tankers for the next five years,” Bohara said at the fourth general convention of the association held in Pokhara on Friday.
Tanker operators have also demanded that Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to withdraw its decision of not allowing Nepali tankers older than fifteen years to ply on Indian roads. They argued that the rule is not reasonable as Nepali tankers are used for less time than those used in India.
The petroleum transport sector, where about Rs4 billion has been invested, is employing ore than 6,000 people, according to petroleum dealers.
