One killed, dozen vehicles vandalized in wrath

DHULIKHEL, July 13: Bhairaja Malla of Anaikot-9 died when an Araniko Travel´s bus (Ba 2 Kha 6308) hit a motorbike (Ba 36 Pa 9792) on Panchkhal road section along the Araniko Highway on Saturday, said the Kavre District Police Office.



Locals got enraged after the Araniko Travel refused to provide compensation exceeding the insurance amount to the victim´s family. The victim family members had demanded the Araniko Transport Service Committee to make necessary arrangement for the education and livelihood of dependant family members.



The irate locals had resorted to vandalize dozen of vehicles of Araniko Travels after the police intervened and ´roughed up´ the relatives of deceased Malla.



The Araniko Highway remained tense when police baton charged the locals, who had hit the road demanding compensation.



Police had roughed up seven locals involved in vandalizing vehicles, said Superintendent of Police (SP) at District Police Office Krishnaji Adhikari.
