“We wrote to the MoHA to take departmental actions since we have no right to punish them on our own,” Assistant Chief District Officer of Sunsari Harihar Dahal said. Those charged with issuing a citizenship to the criminal are nayab subba (non-gazette staff) Gayatri Adhikari and kharidar Lila Bohara and section officer Bednidhi Khanal.
Bangladeshi national Ansari had obtained a Nepali citizenship from Sunsari in August. A month later, police had arrested Ansari from Jhapa, after which it was disclosed that three government officials had illicitly provided him the citizenship. Ansari has been in judicial custody following an order by the district court.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra Prasad Dhakal said Ansari´s photo has been forwarded to INTERPOL to ascertain that the man they arrested from Jhapa is the same international criminal placed in the most-wanted list. “We have yet to get response from INTERPOL,” Dhakal said.
Ansari had obtained Nepali citizenship by producing one Sagir Miyan, of Duhabi-1 of Sunsari, as his fake father. The court, however, has released Miyan on bail after his finger prints did not match those used by Ansari while obtaining citizenship.
Kumod Chaudhary, Avi Narayan Mandal and Jog Narayan Chaudhary, of Duhabi, who helped Ansari obtain Nepali citizenship, are at large. According to DSP Dhakal, arrest warrant has been issued against the three.
