The NT said it plans to add 12 more Base Tower Stations in the valley to expand 3G services. Currently, there are 64 BTS in Kathmandu. NT also hopes to launch 3G services in Pokhara within a few months.

The NT has also reduced GSM/CDMA SIM and RIM card replacement charge to Rs 250 from Rs 565, according to press release issued by the company Thursday.

The NT also announced to continue slashed usage charge of GPRS (15 paisa/100kb) on EVDO and PDSN services for the next two months. Such scheme was launched on the occasion of NT´s 3rd anniversary two months ago.

The company said it will distribute volume based ADSL package with the capacity of 512 kbps and on-demand bandwidth of up to 1mbps to its customers from May 30. Existing ADSL internet users can also change their subscription status into volume-based one without paying a single rupee.

Thike said NT also plans to introduce session initiation protocol (SIP) in which users can use internet for telephone call from their local numbers. Making calls through internet via SIP will be cheaper than PSTN, GSM and VDMP service.

Meanwhile, NT claimed to have increased its subscriber base from 4.2 million to 5.2 million in the past 11 months.

Amarnath Singh, managing director of NT, said the company plans to distribute 500,000 CDMA lines and 1.8 million GSM mobiles by the end of the next fiscal.
