The SC gave its verdict on Monday after Kamal Bahadur Chitrakar, a member of the Rukma Shamsher Rana-led NOC, had filed a writ against former home minister Bam Dev Gautam´s decision to authorize the NOC headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan to run NOC´s bank account.[break]
NOC has made it clear that they will respect the verdict of the apex court. However, they said, they were yet to receive the full text of the verdict.
"We are yet to receive the full text and hope the verdict has also respected the IOC Charter," said Jeevan Ram Shrestha, general-secretary of NOC.
"We will respect any verdict of the Supreme Court. However, it depends solely on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) how they will take the verdict," said NOC President Pradhan.
District Administration Office, Kathmandu had scrapped the registration of NOC led by Rana during the period of former king Gyanendra Shah´s coup, at a time when there was also another NOC body led by Kishor Bahadur Singh, member-secretary of National Sports Council (NSC).
The two bodies had reached a consensus after then sports minister Radha Krishna Mainali intervened and registered the Rana-led NOC in NSC.
After the restoration of democracy, NOC had conducted its election on March 13, 2007 and elected a committee led by Pradhan. Rana and his allies had also taken part in the election.
However, then home minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula reinstated the Rana-led committee later and allowed it to run NOC´s bank account. But, Gautam again altered the decision and recognized the Pradhan-led committee during his tenure.
