Talking to myrepublica.com, Krishna Chapagain, an official at the Labor Department, also refuted recent media reports that is planning to cut down the number of foreign workers, including those from Nepal. [break]
“There will not be any changes to Nepali workers who are in the pipeline for , as we have not received any notification about this. We are sending 135 workers to Korean coming Monday and other workers will also leave gradually as per the schedule set earlier,” said Chapagain, who has also been assigned as Employment Permit System (EPS) officer.
Korean employers have been recruiting foreign workers under the Employment Permit System (EPS) since 2004 to meet the increasing demand for workers. Universal Traveler, a designated travel agent, has been flying Nepali workers to every Monday.
Chapagain informed that a total of 1,776 Nepali blue-collar workers have left for Asia’s third largest economy to work in five different sectors- agriculture, fishery, manufacturing, construction and services, over the last few months. Some 2,800 workers have already singed job contracts with Korean employers.
More than 6,500 Nepali workers were selected and sent to job rosters at ’s Human Resource Department, which gradually sends the job contracts to Nepali workers as per the demand of local employers.
