KATHMANDU, March 18: The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) is set to take legal action against four suspended doctors from Dhulikhel Hospital. Following an investigation, the NMC found the doctors partially guilty and will now move forward with legal proceedings.

The NMC concluded that all four doctors bore partial responsibility in connection to the incident. Dr Satish Kumar Dev, Registrar of the Council, confirmed that further action will be taken based on the findings.

The case dates back to February 16, when a first-year postgraduate psychiatry resident at Kathmandu University (KU) School of Medical Sciences attempted suicide. A complaint was subsequently lodged with the NMC, alleging harassment by a senior member of the department as a contributing factor.

After preliminary investigations, the NMC suspended the head of the Psychiatry Department, Dr Ajay Risal, along with doctors Dr Deepak Kunwar, Dr Barsha Shrestha, and Dr Rika Rizal, for one week.
