NHRC recommends compensation for Chaudhary's family

BIRGUNJ: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended to the government to provide a compensation of Rs 30,000 to the family of Parvati Devi Chaudhary, who was killed on the charge of practicing witchcraft.



Accusing Chaudhary, 45, of casting evil spells on Pratima Chaudhary, her neighbor, locals had thrashed her to death at Sadi village of Supauli VDC-9 on August 18.[break]



A team of NHRC had reached the village a month after the incident. Talking to Republica, regional director of NHRC Buddha Narayan Supauli shared attack on women has increased in Parsa district. “We have already requested the Prime Minister´s Office to provide compensation to Chaudhary´s family,” said Supauli.



Meanwhile, Parsa District Attorney, Yadhu Nath Sharma said 17 locals have been charged with murder. Police have already arrested Jagdish Devi and his wife Rajpati Devi for the murder.
