BIRATNAGAR, March 28: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called upon the government to immediately implement its recommendations and put an end to the growing culture of impunity.

In a press statement issued on the occasion of the third memorial day of Dayaram Pariyar, an NHRC staffer shot by police, the Commission said, “Although NHRC recommended to the government to take action against those involved in Pariyar´s death, no action has been taken even after three years.”

Pariyar was shot by police three years ago in Janakpurdham and he subsequently died while receiving treatment at TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.

The Commission said the government’s indifference in acting on its recommendation has worked to encourage impunity.

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, during her recent visit to Nepal, had urged the government to immediately address the issue of impunity in order to safeguard law and order.
