A joint statement issued by Television Broadcasters´ Nepal, Nepal Media Society, Broadcasting Association of Nepal and Association of Community Radio Broadcasters said that the embassy must realize its mistake and not repeat such acts.
The embassy had on Friday expressed concern over media reports against goods manufactured by Indian joint ventures in Nepal.
Stating that they are seriously concerned over the press statement issued by the embassy on Friday, the media bodies have stated that the Nepali media alone has the right to decide was is printed and broadcast in the country. They also urged the embassy to follow diplomatic norms and abide by rules of international press freedom.
The media bodies´ statement also said that the news reports on sensitive consumer goods that have direct bearing on public health were based on investigations carried out by government agencies.
