According to ministry, Finance Minister Pun has expressed commitment to endorse the bill before the meeting of the Financial Action Taskforce. [break]
In the meeting Bode said, "Nepal risks being put in the dark grey area if it failed to endorse an ordinance related to organized crimes before the next meeting of FATF scheduled for February.”
In reply, Pun informed that the ordinance has already been forwarded to the president but hasn´t been approved due to lack of political consensus.
The president had told the government that he was ready to endorse ordinances if there was consensus among the political parties. The president had also asked the prime minister to bring ordinances through political consensus.
Nepal has already endorsed two of the three bills -- Extradition Bill and Mutual Cooperation Bill -- as per the condition set by the FATF, a global anti-money laundering body.
The bill on controlling organized crimes had failed to get endorsed in parliament due to strong opposition from the Mohan Baidya faction of then UCPN (Maoist).
