Wary of strained relation among the major political parties in recent days, Nepal called Dahal on the phone Friday evening. Dahal invited Nepal to visit his new residence at Lazimpat Saturday for detailed talks.[break]
During the meeting Saturday Nepal urged Dahal to take initiative to expedite the constitution drafting process in the Constitutional Committee (CC) of the Constituent Assembly (CA) and press the prime minister to speed up the peace process.
According to sources close to the meeting, Dahal expressed his dissatisfaction over the recent moves by the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML to gang up against the Maoist party.
"While I am working hard to settle disputes within our (Maoist) party, you -- NC and UML -- are trying to corner me and the Maoist party," a leader close to the meeting quoted Dahal as telling Nepal.
In response, Nepal had clarified that the NC and UML´s talks with fringe parties was not an attempt to gang up on the Maoists. "It is true that we are worried over the dillydallying by the Maoist party in expediting the statute drafting and peace process," Nepal was quoted as telling Dahal.
Nepal reminded Dahal that the latter is not only the chairman of the largest and the ruling party but also the coordinator of the CA´s dispute resolution subcommittee and asked him to take initiative to complete the remaining tasks within the extended CA tenure that expires in May last week, according to Bishnu Rijal, Nepal´s aide.
According to Rijal, Dahal listened to Nepal´s concerns seriously and gave assurances.
Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
