Nepal loses first practice match

KATHMANDU: Nepali national cricket team lost to Sri Lanka U-23 team by seven wickets on Wednesday in its first practice match of the ongoing Sri Lanka tour. Batting first, Nepal was all out for 127 runs. Prithu Baskota scored 44 runs for Nepal. The Sri Lankan side reached the 128-run target losing only three wickets.



The Nepali team is on a 14-day tour of Sri Lanka ahead of the ACC Emerging Teams Cup. The national team is scheduled to fly to Singapore from Sri Lanka to take part in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup scheduled for August 17-25. Nepal has been drawn in the same group as India, Pakistan and Afghanistan for the tournament, where Asian Test playing nations will field their U-23 teams.[break]



Nepal has considered the tour as part of preparations also for the ICC World T20 Qualifiers and ICC World Cup Qualifiers. Nepal has been drawn in Group B for the ICC World T20 Qualifiers to be held in the United Arab Emirates in November along with Afghanistan, Scotland, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Kenya, Bermuda and Denmark. Meanwhile, Nepal will vie for a World Cup berth in the qualifiers to be held in New Zealand in January 2014.
