KATHMANDU, May 8: Nepali Army on Friday said its attention was drawn by controversial news reports about the state of the army.
Issuing a press statement, the army´s Directorate of Public Relations said the news reports aimed at dragging the army into controversy do not bear any truth.
The statement also asked public not to be swayed by such misleading reports. The statement hinted at the media reports -- especially those close to Maoists -- about the "division" in the army ranks in the aftermath of erstwhile cabinet´s bid to sack army chief Rookmangud Katawal and appoint his deputy Kul Bahadur Khadka as acting chief of the state army.
The state-run Gorkhapatra Daily on its Friday edition ran a story claiming that Army Headquarters had supplied the controversial video tape featuring Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal speaking to his party cadres about Maoist design to capture the state.
