At a meeting held at Singha Durbar Tuesday morning, top leaders of the two parties made an understanding that integration should be done strictly on individual basis. [break]
They also reiterated that integration should be based on established norms of the army except for the concessions given on age-limit, marital status and educational qualifications of the combatants as per the seven-point agreement reached on November 1 [2011].
Talking to media persons after the meeting, UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said NC and UML have a common understanding that group-wise integration of Maoist combatants would not be acceptable to them. “Any proposal to create an army within army won´t be acceptable to us,” he said.
Nepal also asked Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, who is also the chairman of the Special Committee, to initiate the process of integration of Maoist combatants as per the seven-point agreement.
NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel alleged that the Maoists are bent on creating an army within the army.
“We won´t accept group-wise integration of the Maoist combatants,” he said. “The Maoists are trying to create an army within army and mobilize it through remote control.”
