KATHMANDU, May 8: A meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML convened at the UML headquarters in Balkhu on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the top leaders of both the parties primarily discussed a range of contemporary political issues, in particular federalism and state restructuring. However, the meeting could not forge any understanding on the issues. [break]
The leaders have agreed to sit again for talks this afternoon, where they will be joined by leaders of UCPN (Maoist). At the meeting, the NC urged UML to join the current government under Baburam Bhattarai.
Reiterating its earlier stance, UML maintained that it will play a constructive role in the constitution writing process, staying out of the government.
Taking strong exception to Prime Minister Bhattarai’s decision to bifurcate several ministries and to allocate key portfolios to Madhes-based political leaders, UML has decided not to be part of the government for now.
