KATHMANDU, Dec 9: As the UCPN (Maoist) floated another proposal in the three-party meeting regarding the leadership of national unity government and the contents of the new constitution, the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has accused the Maoists of prolonging its stay in power by putting one precondition after another.
The meeting of the NC central working committee held at the party headquarters on Sunday concluded that the Maoist leaders´ attempt to forge consensus in constitution writing within four days that delayed the constitution writing for four years was the Maoist leaders´ ploy to prevent the elections to the constitution assembly (CA) by mid-May, NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC said.[break]
KC said the meeting discussed the ongoing discussions among the parties and measures to be adopted for the next CA elections by forging a consensus.
The meeting also asked the committees formed under the party general secretaries to furnish the statutes of Nepal Women Association, Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Association with suggestions by mid-December.
At the meeting, NC leaders Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Arjun Narsingh KC, Mahesh Acharya, Dr Minendra Rijal, Dr Prakash Saran Mahat and Dhan Raj Gurung, among others expressed their opinions.
