KATHMANDU, Feb 23: 'Shadow Government' formed by the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has held its first cabinet meeting in the capital on Sunday.
NC had formed 'shadow government' in May as per Section 9 (5A) of the party statute in a bid to make the effective role of the party in the parliament by monitoring the activities of the KP Sharma Oli-led government minutely.

According to NC's parliamentary party leader of the National Assembly (NA) Surendra Raj Pandey, the meeting chaired by the President Sher Bahadur Deuba discussed over concurrent politics and the performance of the government.
"Not only immediate past Information Minister Gokul Baskota, other ministries have also been allegedly involved in policy corruption, therefore respective 'shadow ministers' have been directed to study over the cases," informed Pandey adding that the 'shadow cabinet' decided to launch investigation in a different way amid the allegations that the PM was also aware of incidents of such policy corruption cases.
Pandey also informed that the NC will hold discussion with other thirteen parties of parliament on how to proceed with the upcoming house meeting on Tuesday. "A joint meeting of all the opposition parties has been called for Monday to voice against Baskota case and other corruption charges against this government," he added.
Earlier, erstwhile Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota resigned from his post on Thursday after being dragged into controversy following the leakage of an audio recording of a conversation between Minister Baskota and Swiss Company local agent Bijaya Prakash Mishra making headlines in Nepali media, where the minister was heard negotiating for Rs 700 million in bribe over the procurement of security printing press for the government.
