NC discusses government leadership, house law amendment

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Nepali Congress leaders held talks over formation of a new government under the party´s leadership and amendment of Parliament Regulations on Thursday.



NC President Sushil Koirala and leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Poudel, Ram Sharam Mahat, Arjun Narsingh KC, Kamala Panta, Laxman Ghimire and some other leaders were in the talks and decided to stick to the party´s stand while amending Parliament Regulations regarding prime ministerial election.



In the meeting, NC leaders opined that Congress should lead the new government to complete peace process and constitution drafting.



After the meeting, Deuba told reporters that the meeting dwelt on amendment of the Parliament Regulations.



First, Congress will stress on national consensus government and it should lead the new government, said KC. The meeting, however, didn´t discussion an alternative to prime ministerial candidate, he said.



The meeting maintained that the Parliament Regulation should be amended bringing in a new provision of conducting election in the second phase between the two candidates garnering highest votes out of all prime ministerial candidates in the first phase, said Poudel.
