Minister rules out local body elections

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi has rule out the possibility of elections of local bodies´ election in the present time.



He said local bodies´ elections could not be conducted at present though it has been difficult to carry out the development works in the local level due to the lack of elected representatives.[break]



Tripathi said constitution writing process would be affected if the government was concentrated to the election in local level.



Addressing a programmme on ´Disaster Risk Management in the Municipalities of Nepal´ organised by Municipality Association of Nepal Tuesday, Tripathi said the political parties are holding discussion for forming a political mechanism to run local bodies based on consensus.



Japanese disaster risk management expert Junichi Miyakawa stressed controlling the risks effectively by making public aware and implementing the building code while constructing the buildings.



Executive director of the association Kala Nidhi Devkota said the programme was organised with a view to making the risk management programmes easier.
