However, the bank, which provided Rs. 1.76 million to the club in sponsorship last year, gave no reason for ending its contract. [break]
The sponsorship amount was the highest for a football club in Nepal last year.
"We had joined hands with Three Star to motive players and sports sector which is vital for national integration. The cooperation remained fruitful to both parties," stated Anil Shah, the CEO of Mega Bank in a press release issued on Tuesday. "Though Three Star is no more associated with us we will continue to support players and sports sector in future as well."
Prior to Mega Bank, Nabil Bank was the main sponsor of the team for nearly six years.
Under Mega´s sponsorship Three Star had won Budhasubba Gold Cup and Udaypur Gold Cup. The club had finished fourth in the A division league.
Meanwhile, Three Star President Lalit Krishna Shrestha thanked Mega for its sponsorship and said the club would look for a new sponsor.
