Earlier Thursday, Maoists accused the ruling parties of mobilizing their wings to foil the indefinite Maoist general strike and warned them of dire consequences.[break]
A standing committee meeting of the party asked its cadres to retaliate if they were opposed by other party cadres while enforcing the strike.
"The government has forged a strategy to incite violence by mobilizing vigilante groups and suppress the demonstrations," said Maoist Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.
NC objects
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress (NC) objected to the Maoists decision to ask its cadres to retaliate against those coming out to the streets against their general strike.
Issuing a press statement, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said such directives could provoke violence. He also cautioned that unwanted elements could take benefit of the situation.
Poudel said commoners had come out to the streets as the ongoing strikes had made their life difficult.
