CHITWAN, Sept 11: General Secretary of the ruling CPN (Unified Marxist-Leninist) Ishwar Pokharel on Friday urged Maoist leaders to come up with a resolution motion that clearly defines the role of the president and the prime minister.

Pokharel maintained that the motion could be tabled in parliament for deliberations only if the Maoists consulted other parties before finalizing it.

“The resolution motion unilaterally proposed by the Maoists against the president´s move to reinstate the then army chief is not acceptable to us,” Pokharel said at a function held in Bharatpur.

He also suggested Maoist leaders to not try to overthrow the present coalition as it would tarnish the Maoists´ image. "I urge them to join the present coalition instead. We shall redistribute ministries on the basis of the number of members in the Constituent Assembly," he said.

While the Maoists have been demanding deliberations on the resolution motion, the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, among others, have strongly opposed the idea.
