BANEPA, March 22: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh on Thursday blamed the UCPN (Maoist) of endangering the democracy in the country.

Speaking in a program organized by Nepal Press Union, a sister organization of NC, at Banepa, Singh said that, "Democracy in the country is threatened due to failure in the Maoists part to implement the past agreements." [break]

He accused Maoists of being irresponsible towards the ongoing peace process and constitution drafting process.

He also reiterated NC’s stance on being committed and sincere towards concluding the twin tasks within the stipulated time.

"The political parties are busy in parleys to formulate strategies to move ahead if due to Maoist both the tasks are not completed on time," he added.

The journalists present at the program were also of opinion that the press freedom can be ensured if only there is democracy in the country.

They have also urged the government to remain sincere and conclude the peace process and constitution drafting process before May 28.

The journalists have also advised NC to make public their official stance on federalism and constitution.
