Maoists collect 'tax' in Dadeldhura

DADELDHURA, April 18: The UCPN (Maoist) has started collecting ´tax´ in Dadeldhura and other rural areas. It has asked all governmental and non-governmental organizations to pay five per cent tax to the party.



The Maoists have been collecting Rs 2- 10 on medicinal herbs, Rs 20 per cubic feet on pine wood, and Rs 40 per cubic feet in Sal wood as taxes. A local businessman said the Maoists are demanding anywhere between Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 on herbs. He said that those refusing to pay are getting threats.
