Maoists beat up NC member

KATHMANDU, July 10: Babu Basnet, an active member of the Nepali Congress in Solukhumbu district, was attacked by a group of 15-20 Maoists in Meski village while he was returning home from Goli VDC at 4 p.m. on Thursday, according to a press release from the Nepali Congress.



Basnet, who was severely injured in the incident, is being brought to Kathmandu for treatment.



Six others including village committee chairman Man Bahadur Basnet were able to flee the scene. Maoists had tried to attack Basnet in the past too, says the press release.
