According to a source at the CPN (UC-M), the agreement was reached by a joint panel for party unification comprising senior leaders from both the parties last month.

As per the agreement, the CPN (UC-M) has already issued circular to all its units, asking for their suggestion about the new name.
“The new name will remain in place only until the upcoming national convention,” said the CPN (UC-M) source. “After the convention, all the suffixes will be dropped from the party and the party will be called just Nepal Communist Party.
Changing party´s name had remained an issue of contention between the two parties for long though unification talks began two years ago.
The Maoists also have agreed to drop the "Prachandapath" from the party´s ideological line and CPN (UC-M), as a reciprocal gesture, accepted “Maoism” as party´s course of action. "We have agreed to mention Maoism and Mao´s thoughts together in the party’s principles," said the CPN (UC-M) source. "Maoism/Mao´s thoughts" will be the unified party´s ideology now.
Both the parties had postponed their national gatherings scheduled early November following the new development. The Maoists got the proposal approved by national gathering but CPN (UC-M) has not done it so far.
CPN (UC-M) leaders claim they are getting 12 seats in the central committee and four seats in the politburo but a senior Maoist leader refuted it. “If we give 12 CC positions to them (Masal), we will have to give same status to CPN-MLM leader Krishna Das Shrestha, CPN-ML leader Yam Lal Kandel and others who have already joined the party,” said the Maoist leader.
