KATHMANDU, May 23: The Maoist members have boycotted the meeting of the National Development Council (NDC) on Sunday.

The meeting was scheduled to finalize the development plans for next three years. Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is the NDC chairman.

According to a statement issued by the Maoist members after the boycott, it´s ´worthless´ to stick to status-quoist three-year program on the plans that have the long-term impact on the socio-economic transformation at the time when the nation is demanding a national unity government.

Meanwhile, the meeting organized by National Planning Commission, began without the Maoist members participation.

Prime Minster Nepal urged to evaluate and review the return of the money invested by the government and donors in the name of poor people and how much it helped to raise the living standards of the people.

On the occasion, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey stressed the need of moving development strategy ahead through political consensus.

Recalling that the current three-year plan succeeded in controlling price though it could not increase revenues, he said the next three-year plan has targeted to raise revenues by 5.5 percent.

Vice-President of NPC Dr Jagadish Chandra Pokharel said the new three-year plan is being formulated and its final draft is ready.

The new plan will focus on creating employment opportunities, equitable economic growth, poverty alleviation and sustainable peace.
