KATHMANDU, Nov 4: An all-party meeting has urged people to cast votes in the forthcoming Constituent Assembly election without any fear.
During the meeting held at the official residence of Interim Election Council Chairman Khil Raj Regmi in Baluwatar on Monday, top leaders of UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Madhes-based parties discussed about overall security situation and election environment in view of the anti-poll activities intensified by the agitating CPN-Maoist. Top leaders of the major parties urged Chairman Regmi to arrange effective security mechanism for the CA election in a free and fair manner. “The meeting urges anti-poll forces to put off all their protest programs that bring hurdles to the CA election. If any party or organization call general strike and other protest programs that violate existing laws and election code of conduct those would be penalized as per the existing laws,” reads a press statement issued by the Regmi’s secretariat.
During the meeting, Chairman Regmi vowed to hold the CA poll in the slated date at any cost. Regmi assured that the government would not leave any stones unturned to ensure people’s voting rights.
The meeting that focused on anti-poll activates being launched by the CPN –Maoist across the country has urged the disgruntled 33-party alliance led by the CPN-Maoist to call off all its agitation programs. “We urged Regmi to maintain law and order in view of the forthcoming CA election,” Nepali Congress General Secretary Prakash Man Singh told Republica Online. “Major parties are committed to hold CA election on the slated date at any cost.”
Similarly, the meeting has urged people to exercise their franchise without fear. UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel, NC General Secretary Singh, and CPN-UML leader Bidya Bhandari were among those present in the meeting.
