Lightning kills girl

UDAYAPUR, June 26: A girl died after being struck by lightning in Udayapur on Saturday afternoon.



Punam Chaudhary, 17, of Hadiya-8, Khairaha died on the spot, District Police Office Udayapur said.



Punam fell unconscious after she was struck by lightning while planting paddy on the field near her home at around 4 p.m. She died before she could receive any treatment, police quoted her father Satyanarayan as saying. Meanwhile, five other planters were safe, locals said.



Punam had just finished her Grade XI exams from Hadiya Higher Secondary School, teacher Naresh Dhakal said.



Meanwhile, a youth has gone missing after he had gone to bathe in the Triyuga river.



Kishor Tamang, 18, went missing after drowning in the pond of Triyuga river at Tapeshwari-1, police said. Tamang, a tractor driver, had gone with his friends to the pond to beat the heat after loading stones on his tractor (Sa 1 Ta 1849).
