Leaders from the region concluded at a gathering that keeping the western development region as it is was appropriate because only then it could be economically prosperous and self-reliant under the federal system.
Ram Chandra Paudel, Gopalman Singh, Chandra Bhandari, Bharat Kumar Shah, Dhanraj Gurung from Nepali Congress (NC); Bishnu Paudel, Gokarna Bista and Bikas Lamsal from CPN-UML; Top Bahadur Raymajhi of UCPN (Maoist); Deepak Bohara of Rastriya Prajatantra Party; and Durga Paudel of Rastriya Janamorcha, among other lawmakers, had gathered at Singha Durbar on Tuesday to discuss the matter.
"The leaders reached an understanding that it would be appropriate not to divide the western development region," Lamsal told Republica. According to him, over 40 lawmakers were present during the gathering.
"Leaders at the gathering opined that since people from far-western and mid-western development regions have demanded giving continuity to the existing development region in the federal system, it would be appropriate to keep the western region as it is," he said.
