CHITWAN, Oct 8: Thousands of passengers traveling to and from Chitwan-Kathmandu, Chitwan-Pokhara, and Kathmandu-Pokhara have been stranded on the Prithvi Highway due to landslides at several places along the highway.

One of the landslides which occurred near Mauwa River at the Chitwan-Dhading border has completely blocked the road leaving hundreds of vehicles lined up on the highway. According to Muglin police, a bulldozer that was sent to clear the road could not make it to the landslide site because of the stranded vehicles that have blocked the highway. Continuous rains have also made it difficult to clear the mud.

Problems have also arisen on the Muglin-Narayanghat road. The road section remained closed since 2 am Thursday morning and opened at around 7:30 am for a one-way traffic, according to police.
