POKHARA, Aug 3: Two students have gone missing after a landslide in Sildajure of Kaski on Tuesday morning.

The two were buried in the landslide that occurred at Naunung in Taprang, Sildajure-4 while going to school.

The landslide also has created panic among the villagers after it formed a big lake by blocking the Madi River, a local Man Bahadur Baral said, adding that water had collected in nearly 3 km section of the river.

He said that the river had already started eroding the area blocked by the landslide.

The river´s blockage has affected nearly five hundred household in various VDCs including Ghumle Bazar, Chanchu, Bhaise, Majhthana, Hansapur, Thumki and Mijure, Local Development Officer of Kaski Guru Subedi said.

The local administration has asked residents of those areas to shift to a safe place. However, Subedi said there was less danger as the water level was falling.

Rescue teams from the police and army from Pokhara reached the site on Tuesday evening.

Transportation has also been disrupted as the landslide blocked the road connecting the village with Pokhara. The site lies 27 km away from Pokhara.
