Kin receive lynching victims' bodies

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: The bodies of three teenagers lynched in Chapacho of Bhaktapur have been received by the respective families and cremated after one and a half months on Monday.



Basanta Lama, Jeevan Gaha Magar and Sabin Mahat Chhetri were lynched by the locals accusing them of attempting to kidnap a teenager from a nearby village, Dhunchopakha.



Magar and Chhetri were cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat and Lama at Swayambhu.



According to Bipin Bajracharya, DSP at Metropolitan Police Circle, Thimi, the families agreed to receive the bodies from the TU Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj. Nabin Sunuwar, a member of the struggle committee, said the bodies were received only because they had been kept in storage for a long time but their struggle would continue. The committee has also decided to send Rs 25,000 provided as immediate compensation to the bereaved families back to the government.
