“Trust me, it’s going to be a great movie,” I comforted my friend before buying the tickets for the much awaited flick I Hate Luv Storys on Friday evening. [break]
While I could hear the girls sigh for the lead actor of the movie Imraan Khan, the boys appeared to go weak on their knees for Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor. What they didn´t seem to take into account was that the looks of these actors weren´t the only assets that Punit Malhotra banked on to make his directorial debut “I Hate Luv Storys” a box office success.
J (Imraan Khan) hates mushy romance and avowedly denounces life in the could-cuckoo-land. It´s SEX only SEX that matters to him most. While Simran (Sonam Kapoor) is a creature of dreams. She lives in her fantasies and her dream world defines her approach to life so much so that she romances her childhood friend as part of her perfect love story. But as expected, she fails to ignite her beau´s fire until love blossoms between them eventually. And the rest is just another run-of-the-mill love story.

Director Punit Malhotra succeeds in tickling the funny bone with few funny dialogues in the first half but the second half falters and finally falls prey to terribly predictable lines.
I cannot disagree that the first-timer Punit Malhotra delivers his best when it comes to few extremely LOL one-liners at many scenes but dumps himself down as a scriptwriter.
Director Malhotra has created few punch lines against the mainstream Bollywood filmmakers. Indeed there are a lot of parodies thrown to filmmakers like the Chopra clan and Karan Johar. Ironically, I Hate Luv Storys is a parody to Malhotra himself who throws himself in the same league.
Thanks to musicians Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar for the background score. The songs are above average and catchy while the production design has been done carefully. Ayanka Bose’s cinematography needs a special mention as the camera works are brilliant at places.
Yes, girls you can go for the movie because Imraan Khan is “D Guy” for you all. Keep his cool and fresh look aside, Khan is impeccable in his performance. I have to say that it’s a comeback time for Imraan Khan after he went unnoticed in “Kidnap” and “Luck.”
Sonam Kapoor is an eye-candy. She has matured a lot since her “Saawariya” and “Delhi 6” days” except for her plastic expressions.
Screening at Jai Nepal and Kumari Cinema Hall.
