"I urge the government of Nepal and all else concerned to bring normalcy back to the daily worship and rituals at the temple," Phani Raj Pathak, Gyanendra´s former press secretary, quoted him as saying to the journalists.

The Maoist-led government had appointed two Nepali priests to the temple following resignation by Indian priests. Priests from south India have traditionally officiated at Pashupatinath.

The then kings and queens of Nepal used to be the patron and chairperson respectively of the Pashupati Area Development Trust until the king was stripped of his powers after the April movement of 2006.
