KATHMANDU, April 10: Kaski and TIA on Monday stormed into the quarterfinal of Motidevi Shrestha Memorial Cup Second NeCOS Nation-wide Open Women´s Basketball Tournament. Chitwan and Sunsari also advanced as the runner up of the respective groups.
Kaski topped group B and TIA emerged champion of group A to secure place as the winner of respective groups. [break]
On Wednesday, Kaski thumped Chitwan 30-6 with highest eight points coming from Soniya Limbu. In the match played at covered hall of National Sports Council, Kaski was held to 2-2 draw in the last quarter after leading first to third quarters 8-0, 4-1 and 16-3 respectively.
In another match TIA toiled hard to beat Sunsari 49-46. Upama Pokharel contributed 14 points for the winning side while Kriti Mittal topscored with 19 points for Sunsari.
In course of registering hard fought win, TIA overcame eight point deficit in the last quarter to turn the 27-35 scoreline into 49-46 in its favour.
Earlier, TIA had gone down 8-16 in the third quarter, 10-11 in the first and lead second quarter 9-8.
All four quarterfinal matches will be played on Tuesday.
