Presenting a working paper on ´Professional challenges and prosperity of the workers" involved in the sector, Ganesh BK, President of All Nepal Silver Laborers´ Association said that though the profession is now thriving across the country, the status of workers has not been changed.
“We are still neglected both by the entrepreneurs and the government,” he said. They also expressed their dissatisfaction over a committee formed by the government and the entrepreneurs to resolve problems pertaining to the industry. Stating that the committee doesn´t have any representative of the workers, Bhim Biswokarma, coordinator of the struggle committee said, “We would not accept the committee´s decision unless we have our representatives there.” Meanwhile, Mani Ratna Shakya, vice-president of Nepal Gold & Silver Dealers´ Association urged the workers to submit a memorandum to the government regarding their representation in the committee.
