JAJARKOT, May 2: The government has confirmed that the viral influenza, which broke out in Jajarkot around a month ago, has finally come under control.

The government made the confirmation as patients visiting the health camps run by the government have shown no flu symptoms for the last few weeks.

According to Dhir Jung Shah, chief at the District Public Health Office in Jajarkot, joint efforts of the government and various organizations helped combat the disease. "As far as the disease is concerned, now things are normal in the district. We can now say that the flu is under control," he said.Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel, who had earlier visited the affected areas of the district, had directed the concerned bodies to continue with health services for a few more days though the disease came under control.

The influenza that broke out from Archhani village of Jajarkot had spread to 18 more VDCs including Paik, Talegaun, Pajaru, Sakla and Nayakwada. The government had run health camp in 30 sites in those VDCs from where 12,637 people had received treatment. According to Shah, while 1,437 were found to be the viral influenza patients, around 200 health workers and 46 doctors were deployed at the camps.

Similarly, great effort was made by the teams of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force to bring the affected people's life back to normalcy.

Meanwhile, Dr Bom BC stated that it is a matter of joy that the disease is has come under control. However, there is still a danger of diarrhea outbreak in the villages. "Now the flu is under control. But we cannot overlook the possibility of yet another outbreak," BC said. He added that poor living conditions, lack of sanitation and clean drinking water make people vulnerable to water and air borne diseases.
