POKHARA, March 22: Senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal said any further delay in the integration of Maoist combatants would reduce the chances of drafting a new constitution by May 28.

"If the integration of Maoist combatants is delayed any further, constitution cannot be promulgated by May 28," said Nepal, stressing the need for demobilization and disarming of the Maoist combatants before the promulgation of the new constitution. [break]

Saying that it was the mistake of the political parties to participate in the CA election without disarming the Maoists, he said the parties this time would make sure that the Maoist arms and combatants are managed before a new constutiton is promulgated.

"If the constitution were to be drafted on time, pressure should be exerted on the Maoists, not on the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress," the former prime minister said addressing a function here.

Urging the Maoists to rid the party of arms and army, Nepal also claimed that the draft of the constitution would be ready within a month of the management of the Maoist arms and combatants.
